From March 2026, there will be an important industry change that affects how websites and online services stay secure.
The length of time that SSL/TLS security certificates are valid will be reduced. These certificates are what keep websites secure and protect customer data.
From 15 March 2026, certificates will only be valid for 200 days, instead of the longer periods many businesses rely on today. Over the following years, this time frame is expected to reduce even further, meaning certificates will need to be renewed more often.
While this change is being driven by global browser and security standards to improve online safety, it does create extra work and risk for businesses that manage certificates manually.
What this means for Kiwi businesses
Certificates will need renewing more frequently.
Manual processes increase the risk of outages and expired certificates.
Businesses will need smarter, more automated ways to stay secure.
