Before getting set-up by BTG, using printers, email and laptops while remote working was a real challenge. Being an engineering company, they had a lot of large files that are not overtly portable.
“If you had five or six laptops then you would have to create a separate VPN tunnel for each workstation with all of their associated areas. So there are a lot of challenges with that.”
It meant that staff would do work onsite, save their files, and then later struggle to upload the work onto the server at home.
By using a secure, physically separated router that connects via a second high speed connection, D&H Steel are able to work remotely without having to do things twice, or lose any progress.
“All they have to do is fire it up and re-establish the connection; they don’t have to copy, migrate or move anything. When they’re saving their work, it’s just saving back to the server which is still being backed up.”
D&H Steel are using standard domestic fibre connections at home, yet that’s all they need with the second secure connection provided by the router.
D&H Steel was set-up with new routers and network connections quickly and seamlessly.
“We contacted BTG and twenty-four hours later they had the routers configured. The whole process was seamless, robust and cost-effective.”
The team took the routers home, plugged them in and many were using email within the hour. Other staff were also connected to the server in quick-time.
It enables D&H’s staff to use the same systems they are used to with full accessibility and functionality available from home.
“It’s pretty scalable and if you have ten to fifteen staff, it’s a really affordable solution that is quick to implement.”
Each router was already configured by BTG as part of their Digital Distancing solution, so all D&H Steel had to do was take it home and plug it in. Within minutes they could be up-and-running with a fast and reliable connection.
