BTG have been engaged with Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (Formally Westpac Rescue Helicopter) since 2009 in an active role to upgrade and manage their IT infrastructure. Being a purely charity-based organisation, focus was put on reducing costs and increasing efficiency of their IT resources. The following objectives have been successfully met, and ongoing support and planning for future upgrades is underway in 2010:

  • Implement terminal services for all administrational and operational staff
  • Address aging PC fleet
  • Enable active 3rd party support to the IT Manager
  • Provide for central data location for accessibility from multiple systems by implementing an Industry standard VMware Technology solution on a more robust physical infrastructure.
  • Minimise administrational costs and leverage existing sponsors
  • Enable new technologies that increase KPI
  • Reuse current IT Investments and resources, and use BTG's Thinshell software to employ redundant PC's as thin client devices
  • Position for possible growth and/or future IT flexibility
  • Enable remote access for both administrational and operational teams
  • Where possible implement systems resiliency
  • Use IT to improve Administrational Efficiency
  • Create intranet based on Joomla opensource CMS (Content Management System)
  • Create training program for all users and encourage remote working
  • Leverage opensource and freeware technologies where possible
  • Centralise all departmental databases to an open database solution
  • Build VOIP phone system
  • Ensure high level of security from internet-based attacks and virus threats
  • Implement fail-proof Backup regime, and UPS power redundancy
